By ryan

operations are about to come to a grinding halt as we pack up and head to new orleans for jazz fest. if you’ve never been, you should check it out — quite literally the best food and the best music in the world, 24 hours a day, all in one unbelievable city, for two weeks. forget mardi gras! this is waaaaaaaay better. the only question is how much can you take?

wwoz will be broadcasting live from the fairgrounds friday, saturday, and sunday of this upcoming weekend, as well as the next. stream it over the internet. i guarantee you’ll hear some unbelievable music.

we’ll be posting pics and updates whenever possible, but that may not be until we get back. meanwhile, the new yorker’s dan baum has been maintaining an exceptional new orleans blog that’s definitely worth checking out. he’s also posted some mardi gras indian footage on youtube if you’ve never caught a glimpse.

we’ll be in touch…

    ** MEDIA ALERT **MEDIA ALERT**

JOHN LEGEND JOINS TIDE TO PERFORM LIVE AT
    MAY 5TH BENEFIT CONCERT

TIDE AND R&B MUSIC STAR JOHN LEGEND GIVE “LOADS OF HOPE”
    TO NEW ORLEANS FAMILIES
AND HELP REBUILD 10 HOMES IN ST. BERNARD PARISH

WHAT: Tide and JOHN LEGEND are teaming up to provide loads of hope – and clean clothes – to families still in desperate need of support after Hurricane Katrina. Following his show at The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, Legend will play an exclusive unplugged performance, dedicated to generating awareness of the need for continued support of New Orleans’ recovery efforts.
WHO: Those who donate $10 or more to The St. Bernard Project will receive a limited edition “Loads of Hope” Tide vintage tee and entrance to the exclusive performance by John Legend. To receive tickets, look for Tide CleanStart teams located throughout downtown New Orleans on Friday, May 4th and Saturday, May 5th or make a donation at the door on Saturday, May 5th at Lafayette Square (between Poydras and St. Charles Streets).
Additionally, people across the country can show their support by visiting http://www.TideCleanStart.com and purchasing the Tide vintage tee online for $10. All proceeds will benefit The St. Bernard Project.

WHY: Proceeds from the “Loads of Hope” benefit concert, in addition to Tide’s donation, will rebuild 10 homes in St. Bernard Parish, where 100% of the homes were rendered uninhabitable after the storms, and where fewer than 5% of families have been able to move back into their homes. Tide’s commitment to assisting Gulf Coast residents in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina began with Tide CleanStart, a mobile laundry program that was created in 2005 to provide much needed free laundry services to families in areas affected by Katrina.

St. Bernard Project is a grassroots, nonprofit rebuild organization that provides direct support to families in St. Bernard Parish. http://www.stbernardproject.org
